Koshtra Tolle spent her childhood in Kauai and then moved to the suburbs of Seattle for her adolescence. After high school she attended Oregon State University where she graduated with a degree in journalism and worked for several small town weeklies where she developed her writing and photography skills.

Unsatisfied by the constraints of the small-town journalism world she moved to Prague for a year-and-a-half where she quickly fell in love with portraiture and the help of a battered old twins lense reflex Yashika. It was just a few years later after moving to San Francisco and learning all she could by assisting and working for a few of the Bay area’s greats that she decided to attend the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

After graduation, Koshtra promptly moved to New York City in 2000 and spent the next 5 years photographing for different magazines, record labels as well as traveling extensively. She has also shown her work. For the past two years she has resided in Seattle where she continues to shoot and show her work and spends a lot of time shuttling between the East and West coasts.
